Barbate is a town in the province of Cadiz, southern Spain that is known for it´s marvelous climate, it´s splendid beaches, and numerous activities to participate in during your time off. There are many hidden corners to discover that are definately worth doing.

If you are a nature lover you are in luck, the Natural Park of la Breña and the Marshlands of Barbate offer you a wide range of possibilities. Bird watching, trekking, whale watching, marvellous landscapes…As well as strolls on the beach in Caños de Meca, with visits to the Isthmus of Trafalgar, site of the famous battle, over which stands the Trafalgar Lighthouse.

It goes without saying that if you like beaches, Barbate is a place with many fantastic spots for sunbathing or taking a dip. From Playa de los Alemanes to Zahora, there are 25 kilometres of beaches- some are isolated, some are urban and some are nudist; all are worth a visit.

The local gastronomy is another highlight of the area. This is the best place in the world to eat tuna, and we highly recommend the cured tuna product called Mojama.

If you have been here for a few days and want to see the surrounding area, just 20 minutes away you will find the beach of El Palmar which enjoys waves and ideal conditions for surfing. For more radical sports you have Tarifa, the windsurf and kitesurf capital of Europe, about 35 minutes from Barbate. You can also visit Conil, Vejer de la Frontera, and the region´s capital Cadiz, which is no more than an hour away.

If you would like to travel further afield, you could take advantage of your stay in Barbate to visit the African continent. The city of Tangiers is just 35 minutes by ferry from the port of Tarifa, just up the coast. Don´t miss the chance to visit Morocco during your holiday to the Costa de la Luz!!
